Nearly 10,000 more MBBS seats up for grabs this year

India's MBBS capacity reaches a record 1,36,939 seats for the 2026-27 academic session. This expansion is driven by new regulations allowing earlier seat increase applications. The National Medical Commission approved 9,911 additional undergraduate seats across the nation. These new seats include those in newly established and existing medical colleges. Private institutions contributed significantly to this substantial increase in medical seats.
