Wildfire smoke makes it harder for scientists to track algal bloom

Scientists are now pretty sure that western Lake Erie’s 2026 algal bloom has formed in Maumee Bay, but are having trouble tracking it from outer space because dense wildfire smoke has obscured satellite imagery.
