Steven Shearer Wins Canada’s $71,000 Audain Prize

Steven Shearer, a Vancouver-based artist best known for paintings that lace historically inclined portraiture with haunting contemporary sensibilities, was awarded Canada’s prestigious Audain Prize, which comes with $100,000 (around $71,000 in US currency).The annual prize, dedicated to British Columbia–based artists and last year awarded to Brian Jungen, is reserved for “a senior artist in recognition of their outstanding contributions to Canadian art.” It is given out b
