Behind the scaffolding: Taking a look at the Hungerford Bridge restoration project
Anyone walking or catching the train across the Hungerford Bridge in central London can’t have failed to notice that much of it is covered in scaffolding. This is the start of a several-year programme of maintenance and restoration, and during a railway closure over the weekend, I was able to have a look at what’s going on.Although it’s one of the oldest railway bridges across the Thames, it’s not the first bridge in this part of London. There used to be a pedestrian-only
