USDA tells states to take steps to verify the identity of SNAP applicants
The U.S. Department of Agriculture told state agencies handling food stamp programs to tighten eligibility checks to prevent those living in the country illegally from getting benefits. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is not and has never been available to those in the country illegally, a USDA memo stated.
