Why Europe and Africa aren’t still connected by a bridge or tunnel

Connecting Europe and Africa across the Strait of Gibraltar remains a dream. Engineers have explored bridges and tunnels for decades. Deep waters and unstable geology pose major hurdles. Despite past proposals and recent renewed interest, a fixed link has not been built. Ferries currently provide transport. Future plans aim for a rail tunnel by 2030.
