Ajax welcomes home Canada Soccer star Derek Cornelius following World Cup run

Soccer star Derek Cornelius was treated to a hero’s welcome in his hometown of Ajax, Ont., after representing Canada in the FIFA World Cup 2026. The town temporarily renamed Pat Bayly Square to Derek Cornelius Square for the homecoming celebration. CBC’s Tyler Cheese spoke to Cornelius and fans about Canada’s historic run at the tournament.
