Feds provide additional support for steel, lumber industries in wake of tariff war
Canada’s steel and lumber industries are getting another dose of government assistance as they continue to pivot and find new markets in the wake of U.S. tariffs. Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday that the federal government would be lowering its quota system for foreign steel entering Canada without duties on countries that don’t have a trade agreement with Canada. That quota, for China, would be reduced from 50 per cent of 2024 quotas levels to 20 per cent.
