Cobalt man pleads guilty to attempted murder to 2024 sword attack on ex-girlfriend
Phillip Gagnon has pled guilty to an attempted murder after he attacked then 16-year-old Kaylie Smith in Cobalt in early November of 2024. Gagnon entered the plea in Haileybury court on Tuesday. He had been doing repeated hearings via zoom while he remained in custody.At the time, the OPP said that Gagnon, 18 at the time and now 20, hit Smith with his vehicle and then attacked her with a sword. Smith’s injuries were so severe she had to be sent by air ambulance to the Children’s Hos
