City of Nanaimo looking at creating ‘school neighbourhood’ speed limits

The City of Nanaimo is looking into its options to make sure motorists go slow around elementary schools.
Staff brought the issue back before councillors at a governance and priorities meeting Monday, Nov. 24, with a report on school zone regulation. Councillors were presented with options to lower speed limits around schools and recommend an approach that could be considered to lower speed limits in “other high-risk pedestrian areas,” according to city documents.
