Locum incentives pulling doctors away from community care, Alberta municipalities say
Establishing a permanent family practice has become less attractive to new doctors than locum work, which free physicians from overhead costs and administrative duties, argue some municipalities. At the recent Alberta Municipalities Conference, attendees voted in favour of restructuring those incentives get more health professionals where they are needed most — particularly in rural communities.
