Steven Guilbeault, the minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and former Greenpeace activist who was once arrested for scaling the CN Tower in protest, announced on Thursday he is stepping down from Mark Carney’s cabinet after the government inked a deal with Alberta to advance a major oil-rich pipeline. The 55-year-old Liberal, who is also Carney’s lieutenant in Quebec, representing the Montreal riding of Laurier—Sainte-Marie, said he submitted his resignation “with g
