Once declared locally extinct, Vancouver Island's western bluebirds are making a comeback

The western bluebird, which relies on Garry oak woodlands for nests and hunting grounds, was declared locally extinct in the 1990s. Now reintroduction efforts are beginning to pay real dividends. But experts say the population will always be reliant on community volunteers.
